Just returned from Sint Maarten and stayed at a hidden gem of an accommodation on beautiful Dawn Beach called the Coral Beach Club. For those vacationers who must be on the beach, well, you just about roll out of bed and you're 'swimming with the fishes'. Coral Beach Club opened in May of 2008, so not many people have discovered it yet. The property is a five-star luxury resort with 2, 3 and 4 bedroom villas and townhouses. Beautiful gourmet kitchen (nicer than mine at home - what a treat!), huge flat screen TVs, WiFi (yup, I had my laptop with me), private plunge pools, and well, the list goes on. Coral Beach Club is right down the beach from a major big box hotel for restaurants, shopping and a lovely spa. There's a restaurant right next door (Buzby's Beach Bar / Daniel's By the Sea) - really good and reasonably priced - plus another one just across the road called Big Fish, also very good.
Coral Beach Club would be great for families (with all the conveniences), or that romantic honeymoon. Think 'destination wedding' (there was one going on while I was down there). I can't wait to return!
Transport information and advice
I would recommend renting a car regardless of where you stay on Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. There's lots to see and do, plus a wide variety of beaches, shopping, restaurants, etc. Car rentals are very reasonably priced in comparison to other Caribbean islands, the roads are pretty well marked, and you can't beat the convenience of having your own vehicle right outside.
