It certainly brings new meaning to the term “drag race,” but believe me, it’s anything but a drag. Each year on the Tuesday before Halloween, hundreds of drag queens gather in Dupont Circle to parade costumes and kick up their heels in competition. The block party turns up a notch when the last stiletto crosses the finish line. It’s definitely an alternative (albeit extremely entertaining) way to spend your Halloween, but who cares about candy when there are men flocking down 17th Street in dresses and heels? Surely I don’t.
Transport information and advice
Parading lasts from 7-9pm at 17th Street between P and S streets. The race kicks off at the corner of 17th and Q at 9pm.
