Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café has been a D.C. institution since 1976, and it shows no sign of stopping. The front of the store boasts floor-to-ceiling bookshelves that are so tantalizing they seem to draw you in from the sidewalk no matter how late you’re running. In back, Afterwords Café also satisfies book lovers with a menu from which, I swear, you cannot choose poorly. Open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday and featuring live music, it is a beloved D.C. landmark that never fails fill seats. I’ve come to rely on Kramerbooks & Afterwords Café as the perfect setting for my morning coffee and paper, a romantic dinner date, or a pre-dawn dessert after a night on the town.
